March Workshop - Wood Identification
Second Use is launching its spring workshop series, starting with a free wood identification workshop Sunday, March 3, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn about the different qualities of hardwoods and softwoods, including cedar, oak, hemlock and fir. Learn what to do with different kinds of wood and how to repair minor damage. Attendees will leave with information about different kinds of glue, oil, finishes, sandpaper and joints.
Long-time Second Use employee, Luke Gentry, will lead the workshop. Gentry learned general carpentry and handymanship from his grandfather, starting at an early age. As an adult he spent a number of years constructing post-frame buildings and working on home remodel projects. He later attended cabinet and furniture-making school at Seattle's Wood Construction Center and then apprenticed in Japanese-style woodworking. Gentry has worked with salvaged building materials throughout his woodworking career.
The workshop is free, but an RSVP is required. Please contact Elena Velkov at 206-763-6929 x110 or firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a spot. When you get in touch, please include the full name, e-mail address and phone number for each participant.
