Bookmatched Teredo Fir Planks

$ 70.00

Northwest modern meets northwest heritage in this pair of rough sawn old growth fir lumber, milled as a bookmatched set. Submerged in northwest waters for decades in yesteryear's timber transport, each cut offers a ghostly insider view of the hidden saltwater travels of the teredo clam, otherwise known as the naval shipworm - creatures so notorious they've caused humanity to rethink seafaring design strategies across the globe. And guess what? Despite our species' best efforts, no ultimate solution to the ravages of this industrious mollusk has ever been found, but we've found one man who has spent years revealing their woodwork to be an incredible artform, simultaneously preserving old growth northwest lumber so that our history - as well as that of the clams journey - can live on in new construction, skillfully transmuted into architectural details & DIY projects big and small. An ecological story in a board, told through the long-gone lives of marine life. Locally sourced, milled and kiln dried.
