Obscured Manganese Leaded Glass
Stunning section of leaded glass that was salvaged from a damaged turn of the century factory window. There are 6 obscured manganese glass panes held securely in what's left of a lead/steel frame. Virtually all American made glass companies used manganese dioxide in their formulas prior to 1915. As manganese is exposed to UV light, it starts to purple very slowly over time. These square glass panes are VERY purple and feature ribbing on one side and raindrops on the other. They're about the same color as the glass you see all around Pioneer Square sidewalks, ya know, the stuff they installed when the streets were raised in the 1890's!
