Second Use is proud to announce that we are now a U.S. EPA Lead-Safe certified firm. As of 4/22/10, federal law requires that renovation firms be certified under EPA’s Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule. Common renovation activities like sanding, cutting, and demolition can create lead dust and chips by disturbing lead-based paint, which can be harmful to adults and children. The new rules are aimed at preventing lead poisoning in repair, renovation, and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978. Certified contractors are trained in containing the work area, minimizing dust, and cleaning the area thoroughly.
