“Materials Used: Bleacher bench seats, reclaimed wood.
Creation Process: Ripped my boards in different widths to create my Long board pattern. Once arranged, I laminated the boards, filled the holes with pegs and bevel sanded the lammed boards keeping true to the classic longboard reference photos I compiled through this process. Every great longboard, needs a classic brand or surf motif, so I designed my own period brand label, and decaled it to the wood surface. Board was then stained and finished with a clear lacquer bath. Purchased board fin attached, and then mounted to authentic 50’s bobby pin table legs. Surfs up!
Inspiration: I have a long galley style eating area in my 50’s Ranchette that I wanted to put a table suitable for large family gatherings. I needed a unique piece to fit into my eclectic collection of mid-century modern furniture, and a classic California Long-board came to mind. Original boards are priced in the thousands, so I made this custom stick for the price of a bottle of tanning butter!”
