Second Use Building Materials, Seattle’s largest architectural salvage yard, is seeking a full time staff member to work in our Receiving department.  Second Use is a community focused business dedicated to diverting a wide range of reusable building materials from the landfill and selling them to the public at an affordable cost through our retail store. Our Receiving department acquires salvage materials directly from the public via drop-off, and also processes building materials acquired by our professional salvage crew. These materials are then processed, priced and prepared for sale in our retail store.Our staff members share a passion for keeping good stuff from going to waste, an interest in old stuff, a strong work ethic, and general sense of humor.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Second Use is looking for a Buyer/Receiver. This position focuses on negotiation with suppliers for acquisition of suitable materials, on preparing and pricing materials for sale in our store, describing and photographing materials for our website.

Receiving Functions
-Provide friendly and professional customer service to our suppliers (homeowners, contractors, junk haulers, etc.)
-Negotiate acceptance of materials suitable for our store and appropriate financial terms
-Physically unload and move a wide range of materials from customer vehicles into store and through the receiving process
-Assign appropriate prices and descriptions to incoming materials
-Complete detailed documentation on all transactions in a computer database
-Clean and prep materials for merchandising
-Maintain work areas in safe and clean condition
-Typically work four, ten-hour days, including some weekend work
-Crossover work in other parts of the business, such as receiving, warehouse and customer service, to help with overall business needs.

An ideal candidate will have these qualifications:
-Self-motivated and reliable worker
-Enthusiasm for a safe work environment
-Able/willing to put in a full 10-hour day at 100%
-Able/willing to safely lift 75 lbs and move heavy materials all day long
-Strong knowledge of building materials and pricing
-Experience with negotiation
-Experience with team collaboration
