Outsider Whirligig- Lovers

$ 65.00

A piece of Outsider Art by Michigan artist Ivan Laycock (1924-1997), this is a handcrafted whirligig showing two figures facing one another, one with a little Cap'n Crunch hat (complete with fluff) leaning forward to kiss when the fan turns. Laycock's work was often made from household materials that were on-hand (like wood, pins, pipe cleaners, spray paint), crafted and sold out of his garage to tourists outside of Cadillac, Michigan. His work is somewhere between Outsider art and Folk art, producing hundreds of pieces including Whirligigs, birdhouses, paintings, and more, mostly in the '70s from what I've been able to find. Today, his work is sold at auctions and held in university museums.
