Antique Al Furstnow Batwing Chaps

$ 275.00

Authentic wild west history, right here at Second Use Building Materials! A pair of leather batwing chaps by Al Furstnow of Miles City Montana. These chaps have a pretty easy way to date them- the Maker's Mark stamped into the belt, which reads "Al. Furstnow, Miles City Montana," was used by Furstnow for only five months before he partnered with other leather workers and changed the name of the business, making it easy to date these chaps to 1894, a total of 130 years ago. Furstnow's leatherwork was renowned as haing put Miles City on the map and made it a necessary stop for many families that were headed west, until he eventually relocated to Los Angeles where he costumed much of early Hollywood. The chaps are in great condition for their age, especially for work clothes, with only a few buttons missing. Other pairs of Furstnow's chaps have sold for $475, to over $600,[and up to $1,300] (https://auctions.oldwestevents.com/lots/view/1-EOOVE/al-furstnow-batwing-chaps).
