Since this large base marked "US Civil Aeronautics Authority" was made by Crouse-Hinds, I'm guessing this was a base for some type of electrical component, like maybe an airport light??? It could make a heck of an industrial chic table base. Not sure what's inside the housing, but there are wires coming out of the top.
