Large Signed Raku Art Pottery Bowl
$ 75.00
A bold and commanding stoneware bowl made by local ceramicist Michael McCullough that appears to have been Raku-fired. During the Raku process, pieces are kiln fired to an extremely high temperature, then removed while glowing hot and transferred to a container full of combustible materials in order to produce a variety of unpredictable colors and textures once enclosed in a reduction (oxygen-starved) environment - one of the most thrilling and difficult firing processes to master! This bowl is glazed in white with Raku's characteristic soot-colored crazing, with striking crimson brushwork across the basin. The bottom was signed by its very skilled maker, a Washington native and longtime ceramics instructor, in 2005.
