Studio Pottery Abstract Rustic Planter

A unusual hand coiled stoneware pot made by local ceramicist Michael McCullough (1957-2012). Boldly torn and reassembled, decorated with deep finger ridges and rough sgraffito, this piece has a strikingly organic feel. Made from soft earthen clay, it now seems to metamophose into unquarried stone, rough and unyielding. It appears to be The creamy white glaze blooms into patches of warm orange, tan, and pinks, with lovely bluish gray speckles that further suggest a kinship with cool stone. The bottom was signed by its very skilled maker, a Washington native and longtime ceramics instructor, in 2012.
