Studio Art Pottery Vase

$ 50.00

An unusual hand-coiled vessel made by local ceramicist Michael McCullough (1957-2012). This piece looks to be ash glazed, stoneware crerated by high heat. It has a soft white glaze that gives way to tan streaks and greenish-gryish speckles. It's reminiscent of the artist's "Story Jar" series, featuring deep finger ridges and graffito that invites the viewer to touch and become part of the story. The inside almost looks alive, with tonal glaze and drips that suggest the ridges of a spine or something organ-like - an anthropomorphic effect strengthened by a large opening in the coils near the base! The piece was signed by its very skilled maker, a Washington native and longtime ceramics instructor, in 2010.
